Landscape Blog - November 2022

November has been another busy month for Landscape Architecture and Garden Design at Writtle.

We started the month with a new profile pic for our socials from MLA Landscape Architecture student Charlotte Wicker (conversion year).

Our Associate Lecturer / Technician Steve Jeyes found this amazing specimen on campus. #Nature on the #Writtle campus certainly made the most of the wet #November weather.

Pro Landscaper - 30 UNDER 30

Writtle graduates Oliver Bond and James Honey were named in this year's Pro Landscaper 30 under 30.

Oliver studied Landscape and Garden Design with us before completing our Masters in Landscape Architecture in 2017. As well as running Bond Landscape Design he has also appeared on BBC's Your Garden Made Perfect.

James studied Landscape Architecture with us and graduated in 2020. He is now Assistant Landscape Architect at Guarda Landscape Ltd.

#Congratulations both 🎉

Fuzzy Cognitive Mapping

Writtle graduate Bob Marshall returned to Writtle to deliver a lecture on Fuzzy Cognitive Mapping in landscape architecture research methods, along with hosting a workshop and a lively debate.

Bob is a Graduate Landscape Architect at AECOM, and he completed Writtle's MA Landscape Architecture in 2021, after first completing the Conversion year.

Biodiversity Netgain

Principal Environmental Scientist Simon Allen from Mott McDonald gave a lecture to some Landscape Architecture and Garden Design students about Biodiversity Net Gain and its application and use in the landscape and environmental projects. We gained an insight into the processes of BNG and valuable information about the importance and its role for the future.

Barcham Trees

We were very lucky to spend a fascinating day at Barcham Trees in Cambridgeshire. Managing Director Mike Glover gave the students a fascinating tour around their 300-acre site, and he also explained the Environmental Credit Rating that they have been able to apply to all of the trees they produce.
