Landscape Talk - Ashley Penn

On Monday 16th November we held the penultimate WUC Landscape Talk for 2020.

We were joined by WUC alumni Ashley Penn, who completed a National Diploma in Amenity Horticulture, a BSc (Hons) in Landscape and Garden Design, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Architecure, before becoming a chartered member of the Landscape Institute.

Ashley now lives in Tampere, Finland and is a senior landscape architect at Jolma Architects. His fascinating Landscape Talk for students and staff was all about urban design projects in Finland.

Ashley, who lives and works in Finland, showed us three case studies from different cities (Helsinki, Riihimรคki and Hiedanranta) and explained the Nordic urban design approach from specific ecological, cultural and climatic factors.

The projects focus on design aspects including socially inclusive shared spaces, local interactions in everyday landscapes, and accessible, sustainable transport nodes.

The video of the talk is now available for our students as part of our Video On Demand service.
