Art Meets Landscape Design with Jim Buchanan

On Monday 27th January we were joined by labyrinth creator, professional artist and qualified landscape architect Jim Buchanan.
The all-day event started with a labyrinth drawing workshop, where students from across Writtle School of Design learnt how to create a labyrinth and explored the cycles and rhythms that can be found through repeated tracing of the route.

The introductory activities were followed by the latest of our Landscape Talks - Art Meets Landscape Design. During his talk Jim took us through his creative journey and professional career, including when he was the first artist-in-residence at Writtle School of Design in 2001, during which time he created our turf labyrinth.

The final part of the day involved a creative workshop where the students designed a playspace for an early-years school, in part conjured from their own memories, and which was contained within a shoebox as a new way to consider presenting a visualisation.
