Last week LDA Design Director Benjamin Walker and Senior consultant Tom McCreesh came to Writtle Design to give talks to our students and staff.
Ben explained the role of Landscape Architecture through case studies from LDA studio. He emphasised the importance of good quality and happy places people use and engage in with their everyday environments.
Tom, one of our successful MA Landscape Architecture graduates, gave an insight of his career development after completing his masters studies and examples of his projects, which led him to be part of one of the most successful landscape architecture companies in Europe.

Pro Landscaper 30 Under 30

Pro Landscaper magazine have announced the list for this year's 30 Under 30 Awards, and we're very pleased to see it includes Writtle graduates Lucy Geall, Tom Johnson and James Smith.

Each took a different academic route, as you'll see below, but all have shown they've got something special.

Lucy began her time at Writtle in 2008 at further education level, undertaking the Diploma in Horticulture. She returned in 2012 to progress on to the BSc (Hons) Landscape Architecture and then completed the MA in Landscape Architecture in 2016.
Tom was with us from 2010 to 2015. He also started at FE level with a Diploma in Horticulture and then progressed directly on to BSc (Hons) Landscape & Garden Design, before transferring to BSc (Hons) Landscape Architecture and then completing the MA Landscape Architecture.

James started at Writtle in 2014 on the Foundation Degree in Garden Design before progressing on to the BSc (Hons) Landscape and Garden Design, graduating in 2017.
Congratulations all!

Landscape Talk - Sam Williams

Earlier this week Landscape Architect Sam Williams gave a fascinating talk to our Landscape Architecture & Garden Design students and staff about children and play in the cities. He explained the importance of play in developmental growth and how cities can be designed to support the well-being of children and all citizens living in our crowded cities.
As a play design specialist, Sam stated that children as an indicator species fulfil an important role in creating everyday freedom for all in our cityscapes, making play a normal behaviour rather than a forceful purpose.
