Landscape Talk - Gary Alden

Our successful alumni Gary Alden, a Senior Associate at Townshend Landscape Architects, returned to Writtle to give us the latest Landscape Talk about Townshend's latest project in Canada Water in London.

This large-scale masterplanning project will create a new district in the Docklands area with a mix use of residential properties, businesses and shopping opportunities underlined with green corridors and open green public spaces.

Masterplanning at St Lukes Park

A few weeks back, on a rather chilly #winter day, our 2nd year Landscape Architecture and Garden Design students visited a housing development in St. Luke’s Park, Runwell, #Essex, with the aim to produce a masterplan and propose a series of linear parks.

The students were shown around by Lauren Hull, Estates Manager for The Land Trust, and graduate of Writtle’s BSc (Hons) Landscape and Garden Design course.

While evaluating the site they explored an on-site sculpture, designed by john Merrill

Over the last few weeks our students have been working on their projects on water sensitive design and pocket parks for the new development and last week they presented their completed masterplans designs to the client, Lauren Hull from The Land Trust.

Linear and Topographic Surveying

Last week students braved wind, rain and snow to carry out linnear and topographic site surveys as part of their first garden design project (part of the Context, Meaning and Form module).

Landscape Talk - Giacomo Guzzon

Such a great Landscape Talk from Giacomo Guzzon on Monday. He brought with him a wealth of knowledge and experience from his time at Gillespies, and it was inspiring to hear how the considered use of plants is so important to good design and a key element of the sustainability and biodiversity of our designed landscapes.

Our next Landscape Talk is from Gary Alden of Townshend Landscape Architects on Monday 16th March.
